COMO Cocoa Island – Maldives

There are luxury resorts, and then there’s COMO Cocoa Island. A place where time slows down, where the ocean is your front yard, and where wellness and elegance blend seamlessly into daily life. If you’re dreaming of barefoot luxury with soul, this quiet Maldivian gem might just be your next great escape.

Location & Accessibility 8,5/10

COMO Cocoa Island is located in the South Malé Atoll, just a 40-minute speedboat ride from Malé International Airport. This makes it one of the more easily accessible luxury resorts in the Maldives; no need for expensive and time-consuming seaplanes. On the way, you’ll pass other islands, some with small buildings in the distance, but once you arrive… it’s like entering another world. The island is peaceful, pristine, and utterly magical.

First Impressions & Arrival 9/10

From the moment you step onto the wooden jetty, you feel it: the calm, quiet, and deep sense of exclusivity. You are greeted with a refreshing towel and a real coconut to quench your thirst. There are no buggies on this island, everything is done by foot, adding to the sense of tranquility. A friendly team member walks you to your villa while another takes care of your luggage, delivering it directly to your door.

Your private terrace is already beautifully prepared with soft towels and a sea breeze waiting to welcome you. It’s these thoughtful details that instantly create a sense of peace and connection.

Accommodation 9/10

We stayed in a standard overwater villa, one of COMO Cocoa Island’s signature dhoni-style suites inspired by traditional Maldivian boats. The interior is minimalist yet elegant, with white-on-white tones, wooden details and large windows opening to endless ocean views.

There’s a champagne bottle chilled and waiting for you upon arrival, such a warm and personal welcome! The room feels simple yet luxurious, where every element has been carefully chosen. Outside on the private deck, you’ll even find built-in charging points so you can plug in your phone while enjoying the sun. COMO truly thinks of everything!

Facilities & Activities 9/10

COMO Cocoa Island isn’t about flashy entertainment or endless excursions, it’s about peace, wellness, and refined simplicity. Everything here is intentionally curated to help you disconnect, slow down, and reconnect with yourself and nature.

The infinity pool is intimate and seamlessly blended into the island’s surroundings. There’s no overload of sunbeds, just a handful, perfectly placed for privacy and comfort. No loud music, no crowds, only the sound of waves and palm trees in the breeze.

The island’s soul lies in its wellness philosophy, deeply rooted in the COMO Shambhala concept. Daily yoga and meditation sessions are offered at sunrise and sunset and the best part? They’re included in your stay! Practicing while the sun rises over the ocean or sets behind the palms is nothing short of magical.

There’s also a dedicated Pilates studio, and a fully equipped gym with modern machines and air-conditioning. After your workout, you’ll find healthy COMO snacks waiting for you; thoughtful little touches that make all the difference.

The absolute wellness highlight? The hydrotherapy pool. Warm, bubbling, and deeply relaxing – it’s designed to stimulate blood flow and soothe tired muscles. All guests have access to the hydropool at any time of day, making it the perfect place to unwind after the sun or before dinner.

Prefer the sea over the spa? You’re in luck. You can paddleboard, kayak, or simply dive off your private deck straight into the house reef , one of the most beautiful we’ve ever experienced. A short swim and you’re surrounded by colourful coral and marine life, with no need for a guide or boat.

And for those who love curated style, COMO Cocoa Island also features a beautifully designed boutique, offering a selection of elegant outfits, resort wear, accessories, and sun hats, for both men and women. Every piece reflects the calm, sophisticated aesthetic of the island.

Dining Experience 10/10

There’s only one restaurant on the island, but it’s a masterpiece. Under the direction of Chef Frederico, originally from Sardinia and with experience across the globe, the menu is Italian-inspired with a COMO twist: fresh, vibrant, and deeply satisfying.

Breakfasts are colourful and nourishing, with options like tropical fruit platters, avocado toast, smoothie bowls and made-to-order omelets. In the evening, expect handmade pastas, just-caught seafood, and the most delicate desserts.

And then there’s Ravi, the island’s brilliant mixologist. His cocktails are hands down the best I’ve ever tasted on vacation; creative, balanced, and always perfectly served. Whether it’s a fresh coconut mojito by the pool or a smoky negroni at sunset, Ravi’s drinks are truly an experience.

Overall Value 9,1/10

COMO Cocoa Island delivers understated luxury at its finest. It doesn’t rely on grandeur or flash. Instead, it wins you over with authenticity, personal attention, and meaningful details.

From morning yoga to ocean dips, flawless cuisine to heartfelt service, this is a place where you come to rest, reconnect, and feel inspired. If you value privacy, calm, and soulful luxury, this place is worth every cent. Pros

  • Beautiful accommodations: Overwater villas offer luxury, minimalism, and stunning ocean views, with personal touches like a chilled bottle of champagne upon arrival.

  • Wellness focus: Daily yoga and meditation sessions at sunrise and sunset, included in the price, as well as access to the hydrotherapy pool and a Pilates studio.

  • Top-notch gastronomy: The restaurant offers sublime Italian cuisine with local influences, plus the best cocktails I’ve ever had on vacation, expertly made by mixologist Ravi.

Cons

  • Location: The view of nearby islands may distract some guests from the pure island experience. However, I didn’t mind this as the island itself is magical enough.

  • Limited dining options: There is only one restaurant on the island, but the quality is so high that it doesn’t feel like a downside for most guests.

  • Price: It’s not the cheapest option, but given the quality of the experience and the unique location, it offers great value for money.

  • Location: While the speedboat access is efficient, some travelers may prefer arriving by plane, especially for longer stays.
